Inspect Before You File
We inspect your property at no cost, show you all the photos and explain whether the damage appears sufficient to justify opening a claim.
Review & Document the Damage
The results of the inspection are reviewed by three team members to reduce the chance that damage or required code items are missed. We then send photographs, measurements, and a detailed written report for your adjuster to review.
We Can Be There When Your Adjuster Inspects
With your permission, a Horizon representative can attend the adjuster’s inspection to point out the damage we documented and answer construction questions.
Scope Review and Follow-Through
When your insurer issues its scope, we review it with you against our documentation and point out any missed damage or required code items, so you can raise them with your insurance company.
Nothing Starts Until You Are Ready
We do not begin construction until the claim scope is settled, the work has been explained, and you have authorized us to proceed.
What to Know Before You Hire
Your roof, siding, and gutters protect your home. The right contractor should understand materials, flashing, ventilation, water management, and how the exterior performs as one system. Ask these four questions before you sign a contract.
How much roofing and siding work have you completed recently?
Ask about projects from the last 12 months—not only a lifetime total—and look for experience with the service and materials your home needs.
Are you trained or certified for the products you install?
Manufacturer requirements vary by roofing and siding system. Ask what training the crew has and how the installation affects product and workmanship warranties.
Can I see your license and certificate of insurance?
Verify current licensing, general liability, and workers’ compensation coverage before work begins.
Can I speak with recent local customers?
Ask for nearby roofing or siding projects similar to yours. Then review the finished work, or at least read reviews for the type of work you need.
Strong roofing reviews do not automatically prove siding expertise, and vice versa. Look for recent projects that match your materials, home style, and scope.
Get a professional inspection before making a major decision.
Roof and siding problems often overlap, and visible damage may not reveal the full cause. Ask for photos and a written scope so you can compare recommendations and understand any insurance-related next steps.
We pass our own checklist.
- Roofing & siding experience across major systems
- Licensed, bonded & insured in Illinois
- Local team serving Chicagoland
- Clear written scopes & project documentation
- Workmanship & manufacturer warranty guidance

Insurance Claim Replacement
Your contractor needs to speak the same language as your adjuster. We have completed many storm-damage roof replacements paid through homeowners’ insurance claims across Chicagoland, so our photos and reports are organized the way adjusters review damage.
Building codes vary by town, and those details can affect whether storm damage calls for a repair or a full roof replacement. That is why Horizon Restoration uses software to automatically pull the relevant roofing codes for the municipality where each home is located. We review those code requirements against the damage found on the roof, then use that information to build a complete, code-compliant scope for your roof.
For example, Palatine has specific requirements for low-slope roofing: asphalt shingles are not permitted on roof slopes below 2:12, and slopes between 2:12 and 4:12 require double underlayment. Bolingbrook doesn’t have those low-slope requirements, but requires the ice barrier to run from the eave edge to a point 30 inches horizontally from the inside of the exterior wall. These local differences can change what work is needed to properly restore a storm-damaged roof.
You pay your deductible either way, so it is worth knowing which local code requirements apply to your roof. Whether code upgrades are paid depends on your policy (look for ordinance or law coverage), so we document the code items that apply and you can discuss them with your insurer. This Oswego roof was replaced through the homeowner’s insurance claim

Horizon restoration did a great job in getting our roof claim approved by our insurance. They worked hard to make sure the insurance company covered the cost of the roof and gutters. AJ was always on top of things and kept us informed every step of the way. We recommended them to our family member who also signed with AJ and Horizon Restoration due to how well they managed our project. We would highly recommend them for their roofing expertise, knowledge with insurance companies and over all communication during the project. In addition to this the roof looks great and their team did a great job on the roof and the clean up.

Overall great experience! Julius was fantastic to work with. He was very attentive to all the details and always there to answer questions and get the job done right. Whenever he said he would take care of something, he took care of it. The crew did a fantastic job and the workmanship was top notch. I can not believe how quickly they did a full replacement of our sheathing and roof shingles and still did a high quality job. They left the worksite spotlessly clean. We are getting lots of compliments from our neighbors on how good our roof looks. If you want your roof done right, go with this company.

Paul, thank you so much to you and your entire team for our beautiful new roof. We couldn't have made a better choice. Thank you for all your help with the insurance paperwork and for making the whole process so smooth. We highly recommend Chicago Horizon Restoration Roofing Company to anyone looking for quality work and outstanding service! Pamela & Steve

Horizon Restoration did an amazing job on my roof! Paul was fantastic to work with. Super responsive, most important he was honest and really cared about making sure everything was done right. He made what could have been a stressful process feel easy. The crew was fast, clean and very professional. I’m really happy with the result and would definitely recommend them.

Our contact at Horizon Restoration was Art. He worked with our insurance company for over a year and a half to have our roof and siding replaced. The other persons behind the scenes at the office who were instrumental in assisting Art were Paul-Manager, Ruby-who was in charge of all correspondence, Jack-Install Manager who coordinated the crews for both the siding and roof, Claudio-On Site Roofing Manager and Mike-On Site Siding Manager. They worked seamlessly as a team and were always available when we had any questions or concerns. It is so nice to have Horizon Restoration going to bat for us. Especially Art whose experience and knowledge was so key in getting our insurance company to approve the replacement of our roof and siding. Our roof and siding look so nice we highly recommend Art and Horizon Restoration to anyone in need of their services. Thank you Art and Horizon for everything.
Storm, Hail & Wind Damage Roof Repair
Chicago storms do not give warnings. One minute it is calm, the next your roof is taking hits from hail, wind, or falling debris. Storm damage roof repair is our busiest service from late spring through fall.
Hail Damage
- Dents in gutters, vents, and flashing weakens seals and collect dirt over time
- Cracked granule surface on shingles exposes the underlayment to UV rays - shortens roof life
Storm Damage
- Cracked or broken tiles from falling branches
- Missing or lifted shingles
- Water stains on ceilings or in the attic
Wind Damage
- Lifted or torn-off shingles exposing underlayment
- Broken seal strips making shingles vulnerable
- Pulled flashing from walls, chimneys, and vents
Some damage is obvious. A lot of it hides in plain sight. Small hail hits can weaken shingles without cracking them, then leaks show up months later. That is why a proper inspection matters before you file anything with your insurance company. Our crew documents everything with photos and detailed reports.
Hail Damage Roof Repair
Hail does not always punch holes in your roof. Most of the time it leaves dents, cracks the granule surface, or bruises the material underneath. That damage shortens your roof’s life by years if you ignore it. We get more calls about hail damage than almost anything else.
- Full roof inspection documenting every impact point
- Replacing cracked or bruised shingles
- Checking flashing, vents, and gutters for dents
- Detailed property report for your insurance claim
The biggest mistake homeowners make is filing a claim before getting an independent inspection. You want someone who knows what hail damage looks like in Chicago’s climate to document it first. Before you sign anything with your insurer, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners offers guidance on protecting your rights after a storm.
Wind Damage Roof Repair
Chicago gusts rip shingles clean off, peel back flashing, and expose your deck to the elements in minutes. The tricky part is that wind damage is not always obvious from the ground — the real problems are often along the ridge or edges where uplift pressure hits hardest.
- Lifts or tears off shingles, exposing underlayment
- Breaks seal strips, leaving shingles vulnerable
- Pulls flashing from walls, chimneys, and vents
- Loosens ridge caps along the peak of the roof
Most wind damage is covered by homeowner’s insurance. We handle wind damage claims in Chicago every week and document everything before you file so your adjuster sees the full scope.

Frequently Asked Questions
An independent inspection tells you which one you actually need. Hail and wind can look minor from the ground but cause damage that shortens your roof’s life by years. We inspect first and give you a detailed report before you file anything. That report shows exactly what is there, so you are not guessing when you talk to your insurance company.
Get an inspection first. Filing before you have a documented damage report is one of the most common mistakes Chicago homeowners make, because damage nobody has found yet is easy to leave out. We document everything with photos and a property report before you file, so you know what is there when you talk to your insurance company.
Chicago storms bring a mix of hail, high winds, and falling debris, often in the same storm. Older homes in neighborhoods like Portage Park or Edison Park can take hits from all three. Hail bruises shingles. Wind lifts edges and breaks seal strips. Debris cracks tiles. Each type of damage has to be documented separately for your insurance claim.
Choose a contractor who inspects before you file and can be on site when your adjuster inspects. You want someone who knows what Chicago adjusters look for and documents damage clearly. Manufacturer certifications, a current Illinois roofing license and experience with storm damage are good signs. Avoid anyone who asks you to sign before you have seen a full inspection report.
Deadlines vary by policy, so check yours or ask your insurance agent. Many policies require prompt notice of damage and set time limits for claims. Waiting rarely helps: damage gets worse over time, and it becomes harder to show the storm caused it. The sooner you get an inspection and a documented report, the clearer your record.
It depends on your policy, your deductible and the condition of your roof, and only your insurer can make that decision. What we can do is document storm damage before the adjuster arrives, so the inspection starts with a clear record of what is there. Some older roofs with real storm damage are replaced through a claim and some are not, and we will tell you honestly what we find.
