Tell us about your roof or exterior project. No pressure, no obligation.
Older homes in areas like Downers Grove and Arlington Heights often have wood shake roofs that are drying out and splitting after years of Chicago-area freeze-thaw cycles. Real wood shake takes a beating from that kind of weather swing, and once it starts cupping or splitting, it’s not coming back. DaVinci’s synthetic shake gives you the same look homeowners want to keep, without the maintenance headaches that come with real cedar. Prefer natural wood? We also install real cedar shake roofs.
Natural slate is heavy, brittle, and expensive to repair piece by piece. We see homes in Lake Forest and Highland Park with old natural slate roofs where a handful of cracked tiles turns into a bigger leak problem, because matching and replacing individual slates gets tricky. A synthetic slate upgrade solves that.
Not every roof needs a full replacement right away. But there are signs that tell you it’s time to look at options like DaVinci synthetic slate or shake instead of patching what’s already up there.

Paul, thank you so much to you and your entire team for our beautiful new roof. We couldn't have made a better choice. Thank you for all your help with the insurance paperwork and for making the whole process so smooth. We highly recommend Chicago Horizon Restoration Roofing Company to anyone looking for quality work and outstanding service! Pamela & Steve

Horizon restoration did a great job in getting our roof claim approved by our insurance. They worked hard to make sure the insurance company covered the cost of the roof and gutters. AJ was always on top of things and kept us informed every step of the way. We recommended them to our family member who also signed with AJ and Horizon Restoration due to how well they managed our project. We would highly recommend them for their roofing expertise, knowledge with insurance companies and over all communication during the project. In addition to this the roof looks great and their team did a great job on the roof and the clean up.

Horizon Restoration did an amazing job on my roof! Paul was fantastic to work with. Super responsive, most important he was honest and really cared about making sure everything was done right. He made what could have been a stressful process feel easy. The crew was fast, clean and very professional. I’m really happy with the result and would definitely recommend them.

Absolutely. I’d make the review very positive but credible, because mentioning that there was an issue and Horizon immediately made it right actually says more about their integrity than pretending everything was perfect. I highly recommend Horizon Restorations. They replaced our roof in 2022, and our experience with them is exactly why they were the first company I called after the severe storms we had this past July. What stood out to me most from our first experience was their integrity. There were a few issues during the project, but Horizon never avoided responsibility or made excuses. They addressed the concerns immediately, made things right, and stood behind their work. That left a lasting impression on us and earned our trust. After the recent storm, we received countless calls and had contractors showing up wanting to inspect our home and provide estimates. But when it came time to decide who we trusted to work with again, the choice was easy. We went back to Horizon Restorations because we already knew the kind of company we were dealing with. They show up. They communicate. They do solid work. And most importantly to me, they stand behind that work and do the right thing when it matters. Trust is earned, especially when you're allowing someone to work on your home. Horizon earned ours in 2022, and that's why we're choosing them again in 2026. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone looking for a restoration company that values quality, honesty, accountability, and long-term relationships with its customers.

Our contact at Horizon Restoration was Art. He worked with our insurance company for over a year and a half to have our roof and siding replaced. The other persons behind the scenes at the office who were instrumental in assisting Art were Paul-Manager, Ruby-who was in charge of all correspondence, Jack-Install Manager who coordinated the crews for both the siding and roof, Claudio-On Site Roofing Manager and Mike-On Site Siding Manager. They worked seamlessly as a team and were always available when we had any questions or concerns. It is so nice to have Horizon Restoration going to bat for us. Especially Art whose experience and knowledge was so key in getting our insurance company to approve the replacement of our roof and siding. Our roof and siding look so nice we highly recommend Art and Horizon Restoration to anyone in need of their services. Thank you Art and Horizon for everything.
The look of natural slate without the weight, brittleness, or piece-by-piece repair headaches. Because the tiles don’t absorb water, they resist the freeze-thaw cracking that damages natural slate roofs across the Chicago area.
Why homeowners choose it:
The cedar shake look homeowners want to keep, without the drying, cupping, and splitting that real wood suffers through Chicago freeze-thaw cycles.
Why homeowners choose it:
Another premium synthetic system we install. Brava offers composite slate, cedar shake, and Spanish barrel tile profiles, giving you more color and style options if DaVinci’s lineup isn’t the exact match for your home. We’ll walk you through both brands during your inspection and help you compare. Learn more about Brava roof tile installation.
DaVinci composite slate and shake isn’t installed like a standard asphalt roof, and a crew that skips steps ends up with gaps, uneven lines, and panels that don’t lock right in high wind. Certification is the whole point — it’s not just a badge, it’s proof the installer has been trained on the manufacturer’s exact spec. Before you request a bid, take these steps:
Some homeowners file a claim before anyone has documented the damage, and later find the approved scope leaves things out. Get an inspection first. Have the damage documented before you talk to your insurance company. Sometimes the honest answer is that a claim isn’t worth filing, and we’ll tell you that too. Here’s how roof insurance claims work.
Check online reviews, but look specifically for synthetic slate or shake projects. A five-star review for asphalt shingle work tells you nothing about whether a crew can follow DaVinci’s install spec.

No pressure, no obligation. Just a straight answer on what your home exterior actually needs.
We start with a full tear-off and inspect the decking. Chicago’s older homes often need some board replacement before anything new goes down.
Ice and water shield goes down along eaves and valleys. Winters here are rough and ice damming is a real problem, so this layer matters more than most homeowners realize.
Underlayment goes down matched to the DaVinci system requirements. Starter courses get set with precise spacing — this is where a rushed crew makes mistakes that show up later as uneven shadow lines.
Each tile or shake gets fastened using the manufacturer’s specified nailing pattern, not a generic one. That’s what keeps panels locked tight in high wind.
Flashing goes in around chimneys, skylights, and vents. These are the spots where we see leaks start most often, so they get extra attention.
We finish with a full walk-through, checking every course for alignment before cleanup. Most installs take three to five days from tear-off to final cleanup.
Chicago winters dump a lot of snow, and steep-slope roofs shed it fast. DaVinci Roofscapes shingles have a smooth, consistent surface, so snow slides off differently than it does on a worn asphalt roof with rough granules. That’s a good thing for the roof. It’s not always a good thing for whatever is standing below it.
We plan for snow guards on almost every steep-slope synthetic install we do, especially on homes with a walkway, driveway, or deck under the eave line. Picture a two-story colonial in Naperville with a front entry tucked under a 10/12 pitch — without snow guards, a warm January afternoon can send a sheet of snow and ice straight down onto the porch steps. That’s a real hazard, and it’s completely avoidable.
Snow guards get placed in a pattern based on roof pitch, snow load in your area, and where the roof drains, so snow releases in smaller amounts instead of one big slide. Steeper pitches in Buffalo Grove and Arlington Heights usually need tighter spacing than a more moderate slope.
Snow guard layout needs to happen during the install, while we're working with the underlayment and flashing. Retrofitting them later means extra labor and may not line up with the manufacturer's installation guidelines. Not sure if your roof needs them? Ask during your free inspection — we'll check the pitch and tell you straight.
Curling or cracked shingles are the big one. If you’re standing in your driveway in Barrington or Wheaton and you can see shingle edges lifting from the ground, that roof is past its useful life. Granule loss is another. Check your gutters after a rainstorm — see dark, sandy grit sitting in there? That’s your shingles wearing down to nothing. Here’s what usually pushes a homeowner to make the call:
⚠️ Don’t wait for a small problem to become a big one
If any of that sounds like your house, it’s time to look at your options. A cracked shake or a few missing shingles lets water reach the decking underneath, and what starts as a minor fix can turn into structural repairs after another Chicago winter.
Not sure what you’re dealing with? That’s normal. We offer a full inspection and written property report so you know the actual condition before making any decisions.
Not every roof needs a full DaVinci Roofscapes installation. We’ll say that straight up, because it’s true. Ripping off a sound roof to install a premium synthetic product doesn’t make sense financially or practically, and we won’t push you toward it just because it’s a nicer product. Sometimes a targeted roof repair or one of our other roofing services is the better fit.
Homes in HOA communities around Oak Brook and Naperville sometimes have architectural guidelines that specify certain shingle profiles or color palettes, and synthetic slate or shake doesn’t always meet those rules. We check this before recommending anything. If your budget points toward a solid asphalt shingle system instead, we’ll tell you that too. It’s worth pausing before committing if your roof is under 15 years old with only minor, localized damage.
